Environment-friendly process alternatives (Clean Energy Technologies)
![]()
LEWA products are often used for applications that allow more environment-friendly processes and a more energy-efficient production. LEWA can even offer technical solutions for the reduction of green house gases.
Just some examples:
- diaphragm pumps have the best efficiency compared to other pump types
- packages for the CO2-re-injection into storage areas of fossil fuels (Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage - CCS)
- pumps for the production of bio-fuels of the latest generation
- hermetically tight pumps comply with clean air standards
- solar-powered pumps and packages
Eco-friendly production in-house
Responsibility is a must, hence no question, LEWA attaches great importance, also in-house, on an eco-friendly production and moreover we participate actively at the operational ecological programme ECOfit of the federal state of Baden Württemberg. With this programme the waste disposal management, the air pollution control, the water consumption and energy saving are monitored and evaluated.
Which savings were achieved due to the measures within the ECOfit programme?
- 1.527.000 litres less potable water
- 50.000 litres less heating oil
- 212.470 kWh saved electrical energy and thus preventing the exhaust of 54.445 kg CO2
All data is related to the annual consumption at the headquarters LEWA Leonberg.
Eco-friendly pumps
LEWA pumps, especially diaphragm pumps stand out due to the following features and so they allow an
eco-friendly process:
| Hermetically tight: The hermetically tight LEWA diaphragm pumps fully meet the requirements of international directive IPPC 96/61/EC. The diaphragm technology ensures that hazardous fluids don’t leak to the environment or mix with other fluids and no external fluids can contaminate the pumped fluid / liquefied gas. | |||
| Safety: LEWA provides the most technically advanced diaphragm metering pumps in the world to provide maximum operational safety and protection of the environment, primarily through the unique Diaphragm Protection System (DPS) for safe control of the diaphragm movement, a crucial advance in process reliability! Zero leakage and maximum operational safety are of primary importance, particularly in the transport of hazardous, abrasive, polluting or sensitive fluids. In high pressure service it is very important to keep the load on the diaphragm as low as possible and, in order to achieve minimum loading the LEWA diaphragm is actuated hydraulically. | |||
| High pressure & high and low temperatures: The leak-free LEWA process diaphragm pumps employing the robust M200 pump head is the high standard for high flow rates, high pressure and extreme temperature service experienced in process technology. The M200 pump head is a metal diaphragm designed as a “high pressure pump series“.

|
High efficiency / wide control: For CO2 re-injection in fossil waste disposal sites up to 35% of the energy costs can be saved, if LEWA pumps are used instead of compressors. This saving is possible because LEWA pumps have an efficiency of > 80 %. LEWA pumps provide the best possible efficiency over the complete pumping / metering range.
| |||
| Safe against overload: At extreme operating conditions such as high suction pressure or blocked suction line LEWA pumps offer the highest environmental safety this is due to the patented Diaphragm Protection System (DPS) and the safe diaphragm movement control. Internal overpressure protection is ensured by an integrated pressure limiting valve. | |||
| Life cycle costs: The high energy efficiency over the complete pumping/metering range compared to that of rotating pumps, the high reliability and much lower costs for maintenance and shutdown, means that investing in a LEWA diaphragm pump pays off after a short time. |
