Hygienic design and minimized dead spaces

Hygienic diaphragm clamping

The wetted inner side of the clamping area can be cleaned without any problems due to special design measures for hygienic applications.

Shaft entries and their problematic sealing as well as abrasion are avoided.

Optimised hygienic valves

Also the valves are optimised for sterile applications. The crevice free seals in the valve seat area are obtained by controlled surface pressure. The seals are fully contained and cannot move into the product zone. All valve components are streamlined and optimised for sterile use.

Selection of materials compliant to hygienic design

FDA-compliant materials, selection of pump head materials adapted to the fluid and the corrosion behaviour (hygienic standard 1.4435 BN2). The surface quality can be specified according to the cleanability requirements of the process (hygienic standard 0,5 mm electro-polished).

For application in the low pressure range polypropylene (PP) can be used as a prefered material of construction. This allows a complete inert wet end design, e.g., in chromatography packages.

Minimized dead spaces

The design of the pump heads was optimised for the use in the sterile technology. The fluids have a short dwell time and due to the pump head with minimized dead spaces also low hold-up volume and the process fluid volume in the working chamber (“Hold-Up”) is kept low.

The design of the fluid path allows easy flushing-, draining- and drying procedures.
