Second and third generation bio-fuel production
Up to the year 2030 a 50% increase of the worldwide fuel demand is expected;
until 2050 even doubling is anticipated, conventional fuels such as liquid - resp. natural gas cannot cover this development in demand. Biofuels resp. synthetic fuels are becoming more and more important.
LEWA pumps and systems and LEWA process diaphragm pumps are used for the production of biofuels of the latest generation also.

LEWA pumps and systems for the conveyance of biomass of the third generation:
- Alternative process for synthetic fuel production: gasification of carbonaceous raw materials for the production of synthesis gas (CO and H2) which subsequently is transformed into a long-chain FT-fuel by means of the Fischer-Tropsch-synthesis (FT). With the last process step (hydro-cracking) the desired BTL-fuel (Synfuel) is produced at temperatures > 200°C and a process pressure of up to 90 bar.
LEWA pumps and systems for high pressure processes of the second generation:
- LEWA ecoflow or LEWA triplex high temperature process pumps for reactor pressure boosting, 7 m³/h, 90 bar, 230-290°C
- esterification of organic fats or oils with methanol in a high pressure process
- thermal decomposition of organic waste for the production of a low boiling crude oil
as well as of a gas with high hydrogen content - LEWA metering pump as supply pump for biomass, 100 l/h, up to 320 bar.
- recirculation pump, 250 bar, 350°C
Examples for the use of LEWA pumps and systems for biofuel production of the second (synthetic fuels) and third (hydrogen) generation:
- LEWA ecoflow and triplex for metering of additives and conveying of hydrocarbons and deionates
- in high pressure processes: LEWA triplex process pumps as supply pumps for oil,
100-2400 l/h, up to 250 bar, up to 100°C - LEWA triplex process pump for methanol metering, 100-2400 l/h, up to 250 bar, up to 100°C
Considering the markets of the future, LEWA is the initiator and patron of the event series "Green Technolgies Day".
